Fire Testing Services

Accredited Testing to Global Fire Safety Standards

At METS Lab Abu Dhabi, we offer a wide range of fire testing services to evaluate the flammability, combustion behavior, and fire resistance of materials used in buildings, electrical systems, transportation, textiles, and industrial applications. Our lab is equipped to perform internationally recognized fire testing methods, helping manufacturers, suppliers, and developers comply with strict safety regulations and obtain certification for global market access.

From reaction-to-fire testing for wall claddings and insulation to flammability tests for plastics, cables, and textiles, METS delivers accurate, reliable, and standards-compliant results.

Our Accredited Fire Testing Standards

We test materials in accordance with leading global standards, including:

ISO 1182 – Non-Combustibility Test

This standard assesses whether a material contributes to fire growth. It is a key requirement for EN 13501-1 Class A1 classification.

  • Measures mass loss, temperature rise, and sustained flaming.
  • Applied to construction products like mineral wool, cement boards, and non-combustible panels.

ASTM D635 – Rate of Burning for Plastics

Determines the self-extinguishing properties and burning rate of horizontal plastic specimens.

  • Critical for plastic components in electrical, construction, and consumer products.
  • Indicates material flammability based on ignition and flame spread distance.

BS 476 Part 6 – Fire Propagation Index

This British Standard assesses the propagation of fire through building materials.

  • Used for classifying materials as Class 0 or 1 under UK regulations.
  • Combined with BS 476 Part 7 for full reaction-to-fire classification.

UL 94 – Flammability of Plastic Materials

UL 94 is a globally recognized standard for flammability ratings of plastic parts in electrical and electronic devices.

  • Ratings include V-0, V-1, V-2, HB, and 5VA/5VB
  • Helps manufacturers meet safety standards for consumer electronics, appliances, and automotive interiors.

ASTM E136 – Non-Combustibility of Building Materials

This test determines whether a material is combustible or non-combustible under specified conditions.

  • Critical for compliance with building codes and insulation systems
  • Related to fire class A1 under EN 13501-1.

ASTM D1929 – Ignition Temperature of Plastics

Measures the flash ignition and spontaneous ignition temperatures of plastics.

  • Used in hazard assessments and material safety data sheets.
  • Supports fire safety design in enclosed or high-heat environments.

IEC 60695-2-10 to 2-13 – Glow-Wire Testing

A group of tests used to assess ignitability of electrical and electronic components under thermal stress.

  • Includes glow-wire flammability index (GWFI) and ignition temperature (GWIT).
  • Required by IEC, UL, and national electrical standards worldwide.

NFPA 701 – Flame Propagation of Textiles and Films

Evaluates flame resistance of curtains, draperies, and other hanging textiles used in public spaces.

  • Commonly used in hospitality, healthcare, and commercial interiors.
  • Tests include small- and large-scale methods for assessing burning behavior.

DIN 4102 Class B2 – Flammability Classification

This German standard tests the flammability of building materials, classifying them as B1 (hardly flammable), B2 (normally flammable), or B3 (easily flammable).

  • DIN 4102-B2 is a baseline requirement for interior finishes in Germany and parts of the EU.

EN 13501-1 – Fire Classification of Construction Products

This is the European fire classification system, combining results from multiple tests (ISO 1182, ISO 11925-2, EN 13823).

  • Materials are classified from A1 (non-combustible) to F (easily flammable)
  • Includes smoke (s1-s3) and droplet formation (d0-d2) ratings.

Class A1 = No contribution to fire
Class E = Limited fire performance (based on ignitability)

ISO 11925-2 – Ignitability of Building Products

Part of EN 13501-1 classification. Evaluates the reaction to a small flame

  • Measures flame spread and whether burning particles are produced.
  • Key for assessing wall and ceiling linings, insulation, and cladding materials.
